Types of Fish in the Gulf & Florida Bay
Gulf fishing trips in the Florida Bay and Gulf of Mexico is normally very exciting and action packed! There are many different species we fish for in these areas including Groupers, Snappers, Mackerels, Cobia, Permit, and sharks of all species. This type of fishing is generally done on anchor, but we will occasionally drift or sight fish for certain species that we are targeting.
Shark Fishing in the Gulf
There is also Gulf of Mexico Shark Fishing with a variety of species of shark. This includes Nurse Sharks, Lemon Sharks, Bonnet Head Sharks, Black Tip Sharks, Bull Sharks, Spinner Sharks, and Hammerheads. When shark fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, there are different ways we can fish. We can catch them with bait in the backcountry, sight fish in the shallow flats, or chum the waters while we drift along.
The Benefit of Gulf Fishing
Due to the nature of the “green” or “dirtier” water, this type of fishing will present top water and sight fishing opportunities that are hard to find on the Atlantic side. Another bonus to this Gulf fishing trip is that the areas we fish are very spread out, which means the fishing pressure is at a minimum.
When & Why
This fishery is a very “conditions” based fishery, which means it doesn’t always make sense to make the run into the “back”. This type of fishery is best during the cooler months of the year, and is often a great decision to make with a hard East to Southeast wind during the winter months.

“Captain Kiki always delivers! Hardest working Captain we have ever fished with and always gives an opportunity for such a wide variety of fish. Our 11 year old caught a trophy mutton!”
